CHLORHEXIDINE GLUCONATE 2.0% w/v in Isopropyl Alcohol 70% v/v
Indication:
Tinted antiseptic applied to patient’s skin prior to invasive medical procedures. Reduces bacteria that can cause skin infection.
Do not use on patients with known allergies to Chlorhexidine or Isopropyl alcohol.
Not recommended for use on infants less than two months of age and caution should be exercised using the product on children’s skin.
Avoid contact with meninges, eyes, inner ears and mucous membranes as this may cause serious or permanent injury. If solution should contact these areas, rinse out promptly and thoroughly with water.
Do not use on open skin wounds.
Keep out of reach of children.
Solution contains alcohol and gives off flammable vapours. Allow product to evaporate completely prior to use in electrocautery procedures and use in well ventilated area.
Do not drape or use ignition source (e.g., electrocautery, laser) until solution is completely dry.
Avoid getting solution into hairy areas. Wet hair is flammable. Hair may take up to 1 hour to dry.
Do not allow solution to pool.
Remove any antiseptic soaked material prior to draping.
Direction of use:
For use on Intact skin, clean the area prior to application. Pour the solution in a sterile bowl. Using a sterile gauze dip the gauze in the solution and allow time to completely soak.
Apply at a rate of approximately 10ml of solution per 12 cm2 x 12 cm2 of skin to be treated.
Apply the antiseptic first as a small circle around the centre of the treatment area and then apply outward, further from the centre, over larger and larger circles until the entire surgical site and a large distance beyond has been uniformly coated in antiseptic solution.
Do not bring the applicator back over a previously wiped skin.
Dry surgical sites (e.g. abdomen or arm):
Use gentle circular motions working out from the centre, take a minimum of 30 seconds to completely wet the treatment area, taking care not to go back towards the centre of the circle.
Moist surgical sites (e.g., groin or armpit):
Use gentle circular motions working out from the centre, take a minimum of 2 minutes to completely wet the treatment area, taking care not to go back towards the centre of the circle.
Allow the solution to completely dry. Do not blot or wipe away.
